External Salary Range (Outside State): $40,661.17 - $46,021.48

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Housing Repair, the Repairer is responsible for general maintenance and repair work of residential buildings on campus, including office equipment and furnishings. The position hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Responsibilities
  • Independent or team repair and maintenance of plumbing systems, appliances, and machinery, including water, drainage, and waste, also assisting trades as needed.
  • Painting of wood, metal, brick, cement walls, floors, ceilings, and repair of furnishings and equipment.
  • Maintenance of masonry, plastering, and stone work; mixing, placing, and finishing concrete; repair of VCT floor tiles, ceiling tiles, and stair treads.
  • Installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment, wiring, motors, pumps, refrigerators, radios, and other appliances; maintenance of lighting components.
  • Record repair needs and generate work orders; report observed repair needs to supervisor promptly; maintain accurate records of equipment used, work completed, and time spent.
  • Respond to emergency assistance and overtime calls, carrying departmental radio at all times; keep work and shop areas clean and free of debris; comply with safety, security, and environmental regulations; attend required training; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications – Required
  • High School Diploma and valid driver’s license in good standing issued by state of residence.
  • Successful completion of vocational training or apprenticeship program.
  • Carrying a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if vehicle operation is necessary for essential duties.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in inspection, repair, and general maintenance of household, office, and building equipment and furnishings.
  • Knowledge of methods and problems involved in inspecting, repairing, constructing, and maintaining buildings, walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, ventilators, windows, sashes, screens, locks, and other equipment.
  • Ability to analyze general repair work, organize assigned work, and develop effective work methods; understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to efficiently and safely make general repairs using standard tools, power tools, and specialized machinery.
  • Ability to work from electronic work order system and/or manual recording; maintain simple records of materials used, work completed, and time spent.
