Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
  • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer or Welding Technician.
  • Strikes (forms) arc to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece.
  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining arc length and speed to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged by color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions; examines weld for bead size and other specifications; applies filler rod and cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes; prepares broken parts for welding; chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Preheats work piece with hand torch or heating furnace; positions and clamps work pieces; tacks assemblies together; performs other related welding duties as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; or one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Welding Certificate.
  • Working knowledge of MIG welding equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; effective communication in one-on-one and small group settings.
Skills/Abilities
  • Language ability and mathematical skills appropriate to the role.
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense and deal with problems involving a few variables.
Physical Demands

The physical requirements include standing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequent walking, standing, reaching; occasional climbing, balancing, or talking/listening. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision requirements include close, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions; exposure to fumes or airborne particles, extreme temperatures, and vibration. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable performance of essential functions.

Compensation

Hourly Pay Rate: $20-$21
