Job Description

The Buyer II position is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies or equipment to maintain monthly production requirements for the business. Duties include negotiating deals with suppliers, researching possible item selections and taking inventory of current products.

Essential Functions
  • Purchase materials, supplies, and services that align with production rates and sales requirements.
  • Develop an effective and accurate system for monitoring purchase orders.
  • Deliver a weekly purchase order report to supervisors indicating the invoice number for all closed orders.
  • Work with the management team to ensure all deliveries satisfy assigned orders and report any back‑ordered or missing products.
  • Assist the Purchasing Manager with maintaining inventory levels and materials on a regular basis.
  • Develop and manage effective relationships with suppliers.
  • Manage data integrity for purchased raw materials and components in the material master; partner with IT/master data ERP team to maintain accuracy.
  • Administer ERP for new vendors and/or products.
  • Develop and manage commodity strategies and tactical plans; recommend changes in purchasing and material management policies as needed.
  • Provide forecast data of future market conditions to better understand commodity drivers on critical raw materials and components.
  • Lead productivity efforts both internally and externally through lean manufacturing techniques, new innovative materials and/or new technologies.
  • Lead procurement efforts for new product development requirements.
  • Manage cost reduction projects and supplier consolidation.
  • Reconcile inventory and invoices to identify discrepancies.
  • Perform root‑cause/corrective actions for stock outs, missed deliveries and non‑conformances to proactively drive permanent solutions.
  • Identify excess and obsolescence and recommend disposition to leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary information.
  • Follow all safety and working rules.
  • Show ability to cooperate with co‑workers, management personnel, customers, vendors and employees in accordance with company policies and working rules while ensuring a harmonious and ethical work environment.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute toward a quality environment.
  • Maintain excellent regular full‑time attendance in support of company objectives.
  • Use initiative and judgment in making decisions, keeping with Waterman’s Company’s Code of Conduct, Ethics and the McWane Way.
  • Perform special projects and/or other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • High school plus a college degree or equivalent 5+ years’ experience in purchasing roles.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in purchasing for a manufacturing company.
  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge in the purchasing field and business administration.
  • Possess an advanced level of knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Show initiative, ingenuity, and good judgement to properly perform and carry out duties. Work independently toward general purchasing results.
  • Apply purchasing policies and general objectives in making ethical decisions without needing to refer to a supervisor unless clarification of policy is involved. Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Work with confidentiality regarding supplies, services costs and discounts, which could have adverse internal or external effects if disclosed.
  • Perform duties that require good analytical abilities with manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to some disagreeable elements; some plant exposure and travel.
