Accounts Senior / Assistant Manager

Circa £34,000 - £42,000 DOE

Clark Wood are currently working with a large, reputable independent firm of chartered accountants in Exeter who are looking for an Accounts Senior or Assistant Manager to join them.

The firm is known for providing high‑quality accounting, tax, and advisory support, while maintaining a people‑first culture. They pride themselves on long‑standing client relationships and offer a supportive environment where you can develop your expertise and take on increasing responsibility.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a varied portfolio of clients, preparing and reviewing annual accounts, tax computations, VAT returns, and forecasts.
• Work closely with businesses, offering practical advice and identifying planning opportunities.
• Visit clients on‑site, attend local events, and become a trusted point of contact within the community.
• Review bookkeeping work, ensuring accounting records are accurate and up‑to‑date, and draft correspondence for clients and HMRC.
• Handle exposure to capital taxes such as inheritance tax and capital gains tax.
• Support the development of junior colleagues and maintain the firm’s high standards of service.

Qualifications:

• AAT, ACA, ACCA qualified or nearing qualification, or qualified by experience.
• Experience in accounts preparation and tax compliance within practice.
• Strong technical skills, methodical approach, personable and professional manner.
• Experience with agricultural clients is highly beneficial but not essential.
