Overview

The Public Works Department is committed to serving the community with excellence. We strive to maintain the road system in the best condition possible, provide a clean and ample supply of water for people to enjoy, and dispose of wastewater in a way that does not pollute.

We provide for the proper disposal of residential solid waste, ensure warm and clean municipal buildings, and maintain a safe, reliable vehicle and equipment fleet. We are committed to rendering quality work while exercising strict fiscal responsibility. Our commitment to the preservation of the town's antiquity parallels our desire to provide a progressive avenue into the next century.

Trash and recycle pick-up will be delayed one day due to Labor Day, Monday, September 1st. Please have your trash and recycling curbside before 7am on the day after your normal pick-up day. Town Offices and the Public Works Office will be closed on Monday. The Transfer Station will be operating on its normal hours of operation (Tuesday, 9-1; Friday & Saturday, 9-2:30).

Due to Rockingham County being recently classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor to be experiencing moderate drought conditions, the Town has issued a Level 4 water use restriction as described in Exeter’s Town Ordinance Chapter 16 section 1610.5 effective September 5, 2025. The Town water supplies are finite and decreasing with only minor precipitation predicted.

7/14/2025:
The Highway Department has begun removing the guardrails from the Linden Street Bridge, and the designated detour route is now in place. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the detour and to be respectful of nearby residents and work crews. Thank you for your cooperation during this important infrastructure project.

June 30th, 2025:
The Select Board heard updates from NH DOT at their meeting on June 30th, 2025. Public Works and NH DOT updated the board on the current status of the bridge and took questions from the board and the public. To watch the discussion, find the meeting on Exeter TV's You Tube Channel.

Step 1:
Your water service most likely enters through the lowest level, up through the basement floor or low along the foundation wall. The water service line may also be located within a crawl space or utility closet and will be connected to your water meter.
