School Nurse at Seacoast School of Technology
The School Nurse provides comprehensive health services to students across diverse career and technical programs. This role involves managing chronic conditions, responding to acute injuries in shop environments, and acting as a health liaison between Seacoast School of Technology and the various sending high schools within the region (Epping, Exeter, Newmarket, Raymond, Sanborn, and Winnacunnet). The successful candidate will be caring, compassionate, and enjoy working with children.
This position requires a detail-oriented, organized individual who is willing to work hard and maintain confidentiality.
- Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Hampshire and NH School Nurse Certification through the NH Department of Education.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
- Provide direct nursing care to students for illnesses and injuries in accordance with established school health protocols, nursing standards, and state regulations.
- Assess student health complaints, administer first aid, and determine the need for further medical attention.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments to students under physician orders, parent consent, and school policy.
- Manage acute and chronic health conditions of students, including but not limited to diabetes, asthma, severe allergies, and seizures, following individualized health plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans (EAPs).
- Perform health screenings (e.g., vision and hearing) as mandated by state and school policies.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student health records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
- Document all health office visits, treatments, and communications accurately and promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked health office, including managing medical supplies and equipment.
- Develop and implement school-wide health and safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators regarding student health issues while maintaining confidentiality and upholding the student's right to privacy.
- Respond to medical emergencies on campus as part of the school's emergency response team.
- Assist in the implementation of emergency protocols and plans.
- Train staff on emergency procedures, such as Epi Pen administration and CPR.
- Develop and deliver health-related presentations or school-wide initiatives, when necessary (e.g., program-specific information, flu clinics, wellness fairs).
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in the well-being of children and adolescents.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Discretion and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, health record software).
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle a variety of situations and unexpected health needs.
