Job SummaryThis position is accountable for the safe, efficient, timely, and courteous delivery of one or more energy products: fuel oil, diesel fuel, off‑road diesel fuel, gasoline, and propane. In quieter times of business, drivers also assist in meter reading, tank setting, fleet reconditioning, and maintenance of company‑owned and operated properties.
Responsibilities- Efficiently deliver distillates and propane following distribution office directions, observing all applicable safety practices.
- Perform “return to service” duties including leak checks, relighting of propane appliances, and prime/starts for oil.
- Maintain daily communication with office staff, Distribution Manager and Operations Manager.
- Inspect and maintain delivery trucks, including: pre‑trip inspections required by DOT/FMCSA; documentation of inspections, registrations, hazmat permits, insurance cards, shipping papers; interior/exterior cleaning; monthly meter creep testing (propane); daily emergency shutoff testing (propane).
- Maintain and submit accurate reports and customer payments.
- Participate in safety and operations meetings, proposing ideas for improving delivery processes.
- Execute the safety strategy defined by company management.
- Use personal protective equipment when applicable (masks, goggles, face shields, gloves, boots).
- Provide customer service support for delivery matters, either in person or by involving other distribution team members.
- Inform office team and managers of any delivery or customer situations that arise.
- Assist in off‑season tasks such as fleet reconditioning, meter reading, tank setting, landscaping and maintenance of company properties.
- Execute other tasks and duties assigned by the Distribution Manager/Operations Manager.
- Complete commitment to safety for self, team, and customers.
- Driven to meet and exceed customer satisfaction expectations, including timely issue resolution and proactive outreach.
- Concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team to drive positive results.
- Strong time‑management skills, prioritizing tasks to achieve desired outcomes.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing situations driven by climate, geography and business needs.
- Comfort driving through various weather conditions.
- Three or more years of petroleum or propane delivery experience (preferred).
- Commercial driver’s license, Class A or B, with hazmat, tanker and air‑brake endorsements.
- Valid DOT medical certificate.
- Ability to drive a standard‑shift transmission.
- Ability to pass company‑provided drug, alcohol, and physical tests.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, overtime and on‑call shifts.
- Experience with regulatory agency requirements (DOT, Haz Mat, OSHA, FMCSA).
- Licensing and certifications as applicable (e.g., CETP delivery modules for propane).
- Proficiency with Android tablets and web‑based software applications.
Hourly pay: $28.00 to $35.00. An hourly, non‑exempt position with electronic timekeeping required.
