Responsible for teaching physical education, health education, proper use of gym equipment, and nutrition to students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting. Develop and monitor student Individual Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards. Works collaboratively with the management team to ensure safety, stability and professional guidance to students in our care that have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
This is a part‑time (20 hours per week), year‑round position.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching or Education
- RI certification as Teacher of regular or special education
- Knowledge base around subject matter (Art, Phys Ed, Science, Math, English, History)
- Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
- Skill in operating various medical record software and hardware, word‑processing, and database software programs
- Spanish speaking preferred and is compensated
- Excellent multitasking and communication skills required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Bilingual/ASL skills compensated by an additional 6% above base pay
- Multilingual skills compensated by an additional 8% above base pay
- Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance required
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Travel to and from community locations and office site; may include use of walkways, stairs and/or elevators
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Provide emergency coverage with ratio to the programs as needed
- Ability to be trained in and implement de‑escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary
