Deliver engaging social studies curriculum—including American History, World History, literature, etc.—to high‑school students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting. Develop and monitor student Individual Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards. Work collaboratively with the management team to ensure the safety, stability and wellbeing of students placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
This is a full‑time (32 hours a week) year‑round position.
- Bachelor’s degree in Teaching or Education
- RI certification as Teacher of regular or special education
- Knowledge base around subject matter (e.g., Art, Physical Education, Science, Math, English, History)
- Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
- Skilled in operating medical record software, word‑processing, and database software programs
- Spanish speaking preferred and is compensated
- Excellent multitasking and communication skills are a must
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Bilingual/ASL skills compensated by an additional 6% above base pay
- Multilingual skills compensated by an additional 8% above base pay
- Master’s degree eligible for additional $3,000
- Additional compensation available for educators certified to teach in multiple subject areas
- Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Travel to and from community locations and office site, which may include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed
- Ability to be trained in and implement de‑escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary
