Position Summary:
The School Psychologist collaborates with the Education Leadership team and clinical staff to support the safety, stability, and well‑being of residents in our care who have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. The school psychologist will complete psychological and academic assessments of each student placed at South County Academy. Additionally, they will work to develop IEP goals and measure youth’s academic progress, provide practitioner‑level mental health services for students enrolled, as well as work individually with you and with their families to meet children’s individual mental and emotional health needs.
The psychologist works collaboratively with the Rhode Island Department of Education to ensure quality sets of courses and materials that also maintain FSRI’s mission of Equity Advancement and Inclusion and respects a youth’s individual learning styles.

Qualifications- RI School Psychologist certification
- Requires either a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, a master’s degree or an Ed.S. degree from an accredited university
- Maintain certification as a national certified school psychologist (NCSP) from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP)
- Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
- Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word‑processing, and database software programs
- Spanish speaking preferred and is compensated
- Flexible schedule with some evenings
- Excellent multitasking and communication skills a must
- Ability to work independently and part of a team
- Bilingual/ASL skills are compensated by an additional 6%, above base pay
- Multilingual skills are compensated by an additional 8%, above base pay
This position requires community visits, employees in this position must have the ability to:
- Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Travel to and from community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed
- Must be able to work remotely and in person adhering to PHI requirements
- Ability to be trained in and implement de‑escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary
