  • Ensure installation works comply with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, RAMS, manufacturer instructions and relevant transmission standards.
  • Take ownership of mechanical QA/QC activities including inspections, quality walk-downs, ITP compliance, punch listing, snagging and management of non-conformances through to close-out.
  • Monitor workmanship and construction progress, identifying potential delays, installation issues, design clashes or quality concerns and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Coordinate closely with electrical, civil and commissioning teams to ensure interfaces between packages are effectively managed.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, daily briefings and site inspections while promoting a strong health, safety, environmental and quality culture.
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with RAMS, permit-to-work systems, project HSEQ procedures and applicable National Grid requirements.
  • Maintain accurate site records, inspection documentation, progress reports and quality documentation throughout construction.
  • Support short-term planning, contractor coordination meetings, programme updates and reporting to the Construction/Site Manager.
  • Assist with inspection, testing, commissioning and handover activities as the project progresses towards energisation.
Experience Required
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Supervisor, Substation Supervisor or Installation Supervisor on high-voltage substation projects.
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant substation experience, with 10+ years highly desirable.
  • Strong experience delivering transmission-level substations, ideally at 400kV.
  • Previous experience working on National Grid (NGET) and/or SPEN sites is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on background in the installation and assembly of HV substation equipment including switch gear, transformers and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Previous experience with GE / GE Vernova equipment would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of GIS/AIS equipment installation, mechanical assembly, alignment, inspection and quality requirements.
  • Good QA/QC knowledge including ITPs, inspections, NCRs, snagging, quality records and handover documentation.
  • Strong understanding of RAMS, permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work within high-voltage environments.
  • NGET Competent Person / NSI 6 & NSI 8 certification is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills with the ability to effectively manage installation teams and subcontractors.
