Summary: To develop students’ understanding and appreciation of the art of music, including a wide range of musical genres, periods, and styles. Identify, promote, and develop each student's talents for musical expression.
Job Responsibilities- Develop and administer music curriculum consistent with CCS goals and objectives.
- Promote a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small-group instruction.
- Develop a balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so students have adequate preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
- Plan lessons and instructional materials, translating plans into learning experiences that best utilize time.
- Instruct students in choral music, teaching tone, pitch, rhythm, tempo, and harmony.
- Inspire musicianship and motivate students to stay involved with instrumental music and prepare them for advanced study.
- Utilize a repertoire of all music literature types as appropriate.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, modify instruction to fit individual needs, including students with special needs; provide individual and small-group instruction as needed.
- Assist in planning and coordinating rehearsals and performances outside of class.
- Teach proper care and use of instruments.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping, instrument inventory, grading, and reporting for all student activities as required by CCS and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Enforce the CCS Student Code of Conduct, Uniform Code, and Computer Usage Code.
- Promote good citizenship as a role model.
- Conduct oneself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school and student information, progress, and records.
- Assume additional responsibilities assigned by supervisor or school administrator.
- Abide by the CCS Employee Handbook, policies, procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations.
- A four-year college degree and PA Music Education (PK‑12) Teacher Certification; if certificated in another state, obtain PA certification within a determined timeframe.
- Demonstrated competence as a classroom teacher.
- Knowledge of current music curriculum and concepts, instructional methods, and educational pedagogy.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Effective communication with students and parents.
- Engagement in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
- Experience with learning management systems;
Schoology preferred. - Knowledge of Microsoft, Google, and basic computer operations.
- Clearances:
Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year. - Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
- Noise level moderate to loud; environment active.
- May leave the school building in various weather conditions.
- Smoke‑free/drug‑free environment.
