The Senior Design Mechanical Engineer is a key contributor responsible for design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment and packaging for FARO's metrology products.
This position is considered a hybrid position out of our Exton, PA office or our Lake Mary, Florida office. Hybrid is 2x-3x weekly in office.
How you will make a difference @ FARO- Key individual contributor able to work autonomously to support the design of new metrology instrument products.
- Support projects from concept to productions in close coordination with related departments and vendors
- Serve as subject matter expert for product external design including industrial design, plastic molded part design and user interfaces
- Conduct feasibility studies of designs and concepts using engineering principles and FEA software
- Develop and coordinate with vendors to provide finished work that meets requirements
- Perform hands-on assembly, testing and troubleshooting of prototypes to ensure design requirements are met
- Analyze and refine high level requirements
- Develop assembly, calibration and compensation techniques
- Build BOMs for manufacturing and assembly
- Guide and assist operations with creation of assembly instructions
- Serve as a mentor to other mechanical engineers and designers in areas of expertise
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical/industrial engineering experience; preference towards 10 years
- Mechanical design using Solidworks or similar CAD package
- Surface modeling using Solidworks or similar CAD package
- Design of injection molded parts
- Industrial design and evaluation of products for improved product user interaction (UI/UX)
- Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Design of machined, sheet metal and cast parts
- System error budgets and tolerance stack ups
- Finite element analysis (FEA) using Solidworks Simulation or ANSYS
