Product Engineering Manager
The Product Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the product engineering team in the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of engineered valve products from concept through production. This role oversees product engineering activities while working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Sales to ensure products meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, cost targets, and production objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical and product engineers and designers.
- Manage all aspects of engineered valve order processing.
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and engineering change requests
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering standardization, product quality, manufacturing efficiency, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate order processing in cooperation with all other organizational teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for product performance and manufacturing issues.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
- Establish engineering standards, documentation practices, and product engineering processes.
- Monitor engineering metrics including project milestones, product quality, warranty performance, and production readiness.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 3+ years of engineering leadership or supervisory experience.
- Drawing standards knowledge
- Experience with 3D CAD software preferably Solid Works
- ERP/bill-of-material system experience, preferably in Syspro
- Comfortable reading customer technical specifications
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge in Excel
Preferred
Skills & Experience:
- Experience in Ideally Valve/pump/fluid products industry
- Experience in ISO 9001 or other regulated manufacturing environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Work in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
- Frequently move throughout manufacturing facilities, production lines, warehouses, and testing areas.
- Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, or access elevated platforms while observing all safety procedures.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or reach to inspect equipment, prototypes, or production processes.
- Climb stairs or ladders and work at varying heights as required.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
- Use hands for fine motor tasks requiring dexterity, precision, and coordination.
- Distinguish colors when interpreting wiring diagrams, manufacturing indicators, or engineering drawings, where applicable.
- Communicate effectively with employees, suppliers, and customers in office and manufacturing settings.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed footwear, hard hats, gloves, and high-visibility clothing when working in production areas.
- Ability to work safely around manufacturing equipment, forklifts, cranes, moving machinery, and industrial processes
Work Environment Conditions:
- Work is performed in both an office and manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to moving machinery, rotating parts, cutting tools, electrical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic pressure, metal chips, lubricants, coolants, solvents, and cleaning agents.
- Elevated noise levels require the use of hearing protection.
- Variable temperatures depend on machine operation and seasonal conditions.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) required includes safety glasses with side shields, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hearing protection, and appropriate protective clothing
