We are seeking a detail-oriented Histology Technician to perform routine and specialized histology techniques in a high-volume laboratory setting. Reporting to the Lab Manager with oversight from the Lead Histology Technologist, you will perform tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, special stains, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and grossing of GI biopsies.
This role ensures high-quality slide preparation and strict adherence to regulatory standards to support timely patient diagnosis.
Available Shifts- Shift 1:
Mid-Shift (12:00 PM – 8:30 PM) - Shift 2:
Night Shift (9:00 PM – 5:30 AM)
- Gross GI biopsy specimens by describing, measuring, and inking tissue according to established protocols.
- Orient and embed tissue specimens accurately to preserve cellular structures.
- Section tissue blocks via microtomy to produce high-quality, artifact-free diagnostic slides.
- Perform routine, special, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining procedures according to protocol.
- Complete and maintain thorough Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) documentation.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and software systems.
- File, retrieve, and organize tissue blocks and micro-slides securely.
- Comply with regulatory standards, HIPAA regulations, and laboratory inspection protocols.
- Adhere to proper workplace hygiene, safety protocols, and biohazardous waste disposal practices.
- Manage shift workload efficiently, prioritizing urgent tasks to meet critical turnaround times.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and equipment, notifying management promptly of low stock.
- Collaborate with peers, cross-train in designated areas, and assist in onboarding new staff.
- Maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and compliance with scheduled breaks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education / Training:
Meets CLIA high-complexity testing requirements through one of the following: - Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) from an accredited institution.
- ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT), Histotechnologist (HTL), or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
- Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting CLIA regulations.
- Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of hands-on Histology Technician experience.
- Active ASCP certification as an HT, HTL, or MLT.
