Lead Specialist Toolmaker

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (Flexibility to start earlier than 8am)
The Lead Specialist Toolmaker ensures that dsm-firmenich products are consistent and of high quality by producing components, assemblies, and maintaining company tooling and fixtures in a machine shop environment. Executes and coordinates activities and duties independently. Takes ownership of all activities and projects assigned.

If you are a craftsman and artisan with verbal concept articulation, problem‑solving skills, and enjoy design, fabrication, manufacturing, repairing, prototyping, and developing molds and intricate tooling used in biomedical manufacturing operations, as well as having CNC experience, please apply now.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain production and prototype devices, inspection tooling, molds, and fixtures while holding extremely tight tolerances (+/- 0.0002).
- Have CNC experience.
- Work independently on a wide scope of projects assigned by the Shop Operations Supervisor or Model Shop Manager.
- Develop, construct, and maintain complicated equipment, apparatus, mechanisms, or attachments where only tentative designs, rough sketches, or oral instructions are available.
- Maintain toolroom equipment per manufacturer’s recommendations and operate per established SHE requirements.
- Complete documentation according to GMP standards and the dsm-firmenich Quality System.
- Apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills, good written and oral communication. Collaborate with the team, share relevant information, and lead projects as needed.
- Work in a machine shop environment; PPE must be worn.
- Stand or walk for majority of shift; occasional projects may require sitting up to 6 hours/day; ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and up to 500 lbs with mechanical assistance.

- High School graduate or equivalent; completion of a formal journeyman program in tool & die making, or equivalent work experience. (Mold making degree a plus.)
- 10 years of experience in the Model Making trade.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Ability to dissect complex problems, prioritize, and utilize resources to find solutions.
- Effective communication with colleagues and contractors; ability to translate technical information into specifications or action plans.
- Mentor, trainer, and example for others in the field.
- Ownership in formulating recommendations on difficult problems; regular decision making and independent action impacting projects.
Hourly: $31.00 – $39.49 USD. Base salary plus comprehensive total rewards package, including incentive pay, retirement savings plan, health care coverage, paid time off, recognition programs, and other benefits. All subject to eligibility requirements.
