The Chester County Library System has an opening for a Development Coordinator. This position is responsible for meeting the diverse consulting and fund development needs of the Chester County Library (CCL) and the Chester County Library System (CCLS) and its members. Essential tasks will be to assist in the coordination of efforts among members; develop new revenue streams and grow assets, including fund balances, donor databases/relationships;
and build support and awareness for member library fundraising organizations and designated 3rd party organizations. This position also serves as a representative of the Library System at numerous internal and external meetings and serves on various committees as required.
All employees of the Chester County Library are considered a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse under the Child Protective Services Law (Title 23 Pa. C.S.A. Chapter 63).
The ideal candidate for this position will hold at a minimum a bachelor’s degree in a related field, with at least two to four years progressive relevant experience in development and fundraising. This position requires strong customer service and interpersonal skills, as well as a desire and ability to work cooperatively with people from various departments and organizations as a team member.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to maintain composure in all public arenas.
- Coordinate Development activities among the CCLS Member Libraries, including Best Practice presentations at District Libraries meetings and requested member Board meetings.
- Plan, execute and evaluate an annual giving campaign. Establish, maintain and protect the donor database using eTapestry or other designated donor software.
- Plan and execute fundraising efforts, including grant-seeking and writing and assisting with grant applications, event planning, & Capital Campaign support.
- Work with boards and stakeholders to create a Development Strategic Plan, including organizational goals and opportunities. Provide training opportunities to support development efforts.
- Increase both public and CCLS awareness and support (write newsletter articles; create press releases; create sales materials; create presentation for prospects; create orientation and presentations for other stakeholder staff, member libraries, Friends group, local government and County Commissioners; make presentations to the District Libraries Meetings; attend Board meetings of member libraries, as appropriate).
- Work with member libraries on building advocacy efforts with local townships and municipalities.
- Develop and provide training for new library directors and trustees.
- Develop prospect list (research potential corporate and individual donors).
- Increase professional skills (participate in at least one professional skills-building development program per year). Maintain Continuing Education credits (CE) as required by employer.
- Serve on committees, as appointed by Board or Executive Director. Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of development and fundraising experience.
- Effective negotiator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work for projects, sales, and marketing.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- General understanding of fiscal planning.
- Strong working knowledge of budgets, spreadsheets and interpreting audits.
- Ability to work on conceptual design and policy development individually or on a team.
- Accurate and detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of the ethical principles of fundraising.
- Exhibits professionalism, integrity, and honest in handling confidential information.
- Broad point of view, able to hear and represent a diverse area of needs and beliefs.
- Strong proofreading and graphics skills.
- Strong leadership skills and a willingness to make decisions.
- Easily adapts to changes in the work environment.
