Senior Developer, AI Code Modernization
Bentley Systems seeks a talented Senior Developer to join a dedicated expert team focused on AI-driven code modernization. The team’s main responsibilities include innovating AI techniques, such as multi‑stage agentic workflows, to automatically convert and upscale legacy code into cloud‑native services and applications. The team collaborates with, supports, and guides other software developers across the company, reports through the CTO, and leads the evangelization and operationalization of the AI vision.
Responsibilities- Manually evaluate conversion quality for difficult code segments and intervene when necessary.
- Avoid unnecessary manual intervention as much as possible.
- Enrich the modernization pipeline with patterns that increase the quality of the modernized code.
- Investigate specific code translations to identify hard‑to‑analyze bugs or loss of precision caused by differences in environment, compiler, or language.
- Develop tools and automation to support the team’s responsibilities.
- Create rigorous, hardened test suites to ensure converted code is accurate.
- Continuously research and improve AI workflows to employ the best available tools and processes.
- Define the limits of what can and cannot be achieved with various technologies.
- Train developers and create educational materials.
- Strong interest in AI for coding.
- Strong problem‑solving capabilities.
- Results‑oriented mindset.
- Good knowledge of legacy languages such as C and Fortran, and modern languages such as Rust, .NET, and Type Script, to compare converted code.
- Understanding of language‑specific programming patterns.
- Ability to research new topics and learn quickly.
- Experience breaking down complex systems for analysis.
- Proficiency in cloud technologies.
- No travel required.
- Ability to sit or stand while using a computer as needed (physical requirement).
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Knowledge of web technologies.
- Knowledge of Azure and GCP.
- Knowledge of application security and cloud security.
- Experience with containerization solutions such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Istio.
