Compensation

Base $64,500, Tested Subject $2,000 for Grades 5 & 8, Experience $200 per year, Advanced Degree – Master’s $3,000;
PhD $5,000. Comprehensive Benefits:

Summary

Under the general supervision of the School Director, develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, physics, and STEM education; develop students' Engineering and Science practices, problem‑solving, and an understanding of the application of science in practical problem solution.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. (Master’s preferred)
  • New Jersey Certification (CE, CEAS) with subject matter specialization:
    Science or Teacher of Science.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of using various technological software and equipment for tasks such as, but not limited to, word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school‑related matters.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, and learning/motivational techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation about performance and professional growth.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of grade‑specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted during work: parents, students, faculty, etc.
  • Before employment, the following must be addressed:
    • A criminal history background check is required to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense.
    • Provide evidence that health can adequately fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation under 42 U.S.C. 12101 and by N.J.A.C. 6A:32‑6.2.
    • Pass the state‑required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32‑6.3.
  • Meet alternatives to the above qualifications as the school director finds appropriate and acceptable.
Requirements/Environmental Conditions
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials.
  • Requires the ability to work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • Occasionally requires stooping, bending, or reaching.
  • Requires some traveling.
  • Occasionally requires work outdoors dealing with school activities.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics, under the district curriculum.
  • Promotes critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction and student learning.
  • Understands NGSS, develops lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of science to everyday existence, including scientific research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.
  • Instruct students in adequately using and caring for scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.
