Position: Social Studies Teacher (High School)

Social Studies Teacher (Grades 9-12)

Compensation:
Base $66,500, Experience $200 per year, Advanced Degree-Masters $3,000; PHD $5,000. Comprehensive Benefits:

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the School Director, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. (Masters preferred) New Jersey Certification (CE,CEAS) with subject matter specialization:
Social Studies/History. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing using proper grammar and vocabulary. Demonstrate working knowledge of the use of various technological software and equipment for tasks such as, but not limited to, word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications. Knowledge of child growth and development, individual differences in ability, personality and interests and learning/motivational techniques.

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of Smart board functions and tools. Knowledge of grade specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students and faculty etc.

Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2. Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school director finds appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Performance Responsibilities (The following description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.) The Social Studies teacher:

  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed
  • Conducts instruction with the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with school standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
