Teacher Of Dance-High School

Compensation:
Base $64,500, Experience $200 per year, Advanced Degree-Masters $3,000; PHD $5,000. Comprehensive Benefits:

Essential Functions:

A teacher of dance educates students in different dance styles, methods, and techniques. Teaching dance means training pupils in how to use their bodies to communicate and to present themselves artistically and professionally. The responsibilities of a dance educator include creating lesson plans, teaching students about dance and the history of dance, assisting students in creating their own dance pieces, organizing and managing the learning environment, directing performance rehearsals, and assessing student performances.

In addition to teaching dance electives, the teacher of dance is expected to choreograph two mainstage theatre productions each year.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working as a dance teacher requires flexibility, determination, and lots of energy. Especially when teaching in a school environment, dedication to the task at hand and a love of your job will serve you well. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Certification: NJ Standard, CEAS, or CE as a Teacher of Dance (Endorsement #1635)

Education:

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Experience:

Preferably, candidates will have had prior college-level and/or professional dance performance and/or teaching experience.
