Part Time Bus Aide

Part‑Time School Bus Aide/Matron

Times:
Morning (6:00 AM - 8:00 AM) / Afternoon (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM) | $100 per full day

Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

Assist the school bus driver in ensuring the safety of students by supervising them while the bus is in operation; assist student loading, unloading, and seating arrangements as required; notify the transportation coordinator of any behavioral issues. The bus matron will board the school bus at the school and ride with the students until the last stop of the route. Must obtain background check clearance from the NJ Department of Education.

• Maintain discipline on the school bus; monitor and assist students while the bus is in operation; ensure proper seating arrangements.
• Ensure seat belts are worn by all students riding the bus and assist elementary school children in buckling and unbuckling seat belts.
• Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students.
• Coordinate seating with school personnel for students with prior behavioral issues.
• Maintain current knowledge of emergency evacuation procedures; assist driver in emergency situations.
• Maintain regular attendance and notify the Manager of Operations prior to any absences.
• Board the bus at the first stop on the morning route and arrive at the school no later than 10 minutes before dismissal for the evening route.
• Report all injuries, disciplinary issues, and vandalism to the Manager of Operations.
• Check the bus thoroughly after each trip, looking under seats, behind seats, and in all other areas where the view is obstructed to confirm all children have exited the bus and that their belongings are not left on the bus.
• Distribute notes and information to parents as directed by iLearn Schools-ASCS staff.
• Ensure no parents or other adults enter or get onto the bus.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Present a positive character model for students and parents.
• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Be able to work in all weather conditions.

• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

• Use standard bus equipment and telephone.

• Travel to and from school district buildings, vehicle service stations, field‑trip locations, and other destinations as required.

• Work in a standard school bus environment.

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Bilingual, both oral and written, ability (English/Spanish) is preferred.

• Successful prior experience working as a bus aide, preferably in a school district or transporting children.
