The Institute of Arctic Biology Business Office is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Student Assistant to join our team. This is a great opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in procurement, business operations, inventory management, and administrative support within a professional office environment.
OverviewAs a Student Assistant you will support daily operations of the IAB Business Office, including procurement and purchasing activities, receiving, tracking, and logging vendor orders, coordinating freight shipments, routing departmental mail, credit card payment processing, annual physical inventory, and managing field equipment. You will provide general administrative and operational support wherever needed.
Responsibilities- Assist with procurement and purchasing activities, including receiving and tracking vendor orders.
- Coordinate incoming freight shipments and route departmental mail.
- Process credit card payments as needed.
- Support annual physical inventory and manage equipment checkout.
- Provide general administrative and operational support to the Business Office team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- UAF student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits with a GPA of at least 2.0, or newly enrolled students.
- Organized, dependable, and comfortable in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Position DetailsLocation:
University of Alaska, Fairbanks campus. Part‑time, non‑exempt student position. Flexible on‑site scheduling to accommodate academic commitments.
Starting hourly rate: $16.00.
