Overview

The Department of Biology & Wildlife within the College of Natural Science & Mathematics is recruiting for a 3/4 time Administrative Assistant. This position serves as a key point of contact for faculty, staff, students, and visitors and is an integral part of the department's office staff. This role provides administrative support to the Department Chair, faculty, and professional staff within the department.

Responsibilities
  • Handle general inquiries and office correspondence.
  • Coordinate department activities and manage department calendars.
  • Schedule meetings and assist with program data collection.
  • Purchase office supplies and reconcile departmental purchases.
  • Oversee informational and record-keeping tasks, receive and distribute mail.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tech issues in classrooms and assist with other tasks as requested.
  • Provide exceptional organizational, technical, and customer service support to students and faculty.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    High school diploma and 1 year of experience in support functions, customer service techniques, and interpersonal and communication skills; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to respond positively and effectively to issues arising within a diverse group of people.
  • Strong organization, time management, and computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, etc.). Training in specialized software used within the UAF system will be provided.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new procedures and technologies; teamwork-oriented and service-minded.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Position details:
    This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Coalition of Alaska University Staff for Equity (CAUSE)-UAW.
  • Location:

    Troth Yeddha’ campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position with a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package (retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and health coverage).
  • Salary placement:
    New hires placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 75, based on education and experience.

  • Work location notes:
