The Institute of Arctic Biology Business Office is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Student Assistant to join our team! This is a great opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in procurement, business operations, inventory management, and administrative support within a professional office environment.
As a Student Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the daily operations of the IAB Business Office while building valuable workplace and organizational skills. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will center on keeping our operations running smoothly. You will assist with procurement and purchasing activities, which includes receiving, tracking, and logging vendor orders delivered to the IAB Procurement Office, as well as coordinating incoming freight shipments and routing departmental mail daily.
You will also help with credit card payment processing as needed, support our annual physical inventory process, and manage the checkout and tracking of satellite phones and field equipment. Ultimately, you will provide general administrative and operational support to the Business Office team wherever it is needed most.
The ideal candidate for this role is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment. Since you will interact with various team members and external vendors, strong communication and customer service skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize your workload effectively. You should have basic computer skills and a willingness to learn new systems, with the ability to work productively both independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Qualifications:- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Applicants must be enrolled as a UAF student in a minimum of 6 credits with a GPA of at least 2.0, or be newly enrolled students.

- The starting hourly rate will be $16.00.
- This position is located on the University of Alaska, Fairbanks campus in Fairbanks, and flexible on‑site.
- This is a part‑time, non‑exempt student position.
- New hires will be placed on the Student Assistant Salary Schedule (Non‑Union) FY26.
