The Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for full-time Office Assistant 1 located in Fairbanks, Alaska. As an Office Assistant 1, this position is responsible for greeting visitors and taking calls to the Fairbanks Regional Office and routing them appropriately. You will be providing clerical support to the administrative unit who perform a wide variety of tasks and work together to support a large team of social workers in multiple regions throughout the state.
Your duties will include receiving and routing calls and visitors, data entry, logging, filing, and other clerical duties as needed.

This position provides a variety of responsibilities in an energetic, professional office environment, working with an experienced administrative team, and is ideal for someone with strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail. Your first 6 months in the agency are probationary and considered a training period, with formal and on-the-job training with your supervisor and your colleagues. This position is located in the Fairbanks office working as part of the clerical support unit, an integral part of our efficient administrative team. For information on the Fairbanks community (including schools, hospitals, housing) please review the Alaska Community Profiles.
We are seeking a candidate with the following competencies:
- Clerical:
Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, and using and completing forms. - Computer
Skills:
Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. - Customer Service:
Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside State government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services;
is committed to providing quality products and services.

- All positions require valid successful completion of a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a criminal records check.
- The successful candidate may be required to attend multiple training courses normally located in Anchorage.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D.; OR Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college (this includes acceptance in a concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment program); OR A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT Work Keys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in:
Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information), Applied Math, and Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information).

"Acceptance in full standing" means acceptance to a post-secondary program by a college or university and does not require enrollment or participation in the program. This includes acceptance in a program offering college credits while in high school, or both high school and college credits, but does not include taking advanced placement courses in high school.
Some positions in this class require the incumbent operate a State vehicle. Such positions require the selected candidate possess a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older on or before the first day of employment.
