Job Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for planning and execution of a construction project as part of a project team. This position also plans and coordinates the activities concerned with the construction of structures, facilities, and systems of a construction project. - Study contract documents to thoroughly understand the scope of work and explain plans and contract requirements to administrative and field staff.
- Participate in site pre‑planning meetings, review scope of work in detail, and discuss special job requirements.
- Discuss the schedule and participate in a comprehensive review of the job schedule.
- Discuss methods for interval planning (daily, weekly, bi‑weekly, monthly, etc.), review forms and reporting methods.
- Confirm that all required permits and licenses have been obtained.
- Manage a variety of project documentation, including processing and review of submittals and writing and coordinating of RFIs.
- Coordinate work activities and other project requirements with owner, consultants, subcontractors, and other entities.
- Negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Prepare budget estimates and progress and cost tracking reports.
- Resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals.
- Take appropriate actions for delays, bad weather, or emergencies with the superintendent.
- Attend weekly job site meetings and maintain/revise interval planning requirements to satisfy job conditions.
- Assist the project manager with evaluation of changes and discuss impact on job completion.
- Review and update the project schedule with the project manager and superintendent, assessing effects of changes on the work plan.
- Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with contract documents, building and safety codes, and other regulations.
- Initiate and price change orders and claims.
- Review job charges (materials, subcontract, equipment rental, labor, etc.).
- Investigate damages, accidents, or delays at construction sites.
- Close out the project with the superintendent and confirm all required documentation has been submitted to the owner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to read and comprehend construction documents.
- Skilled with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Analytical and logical reasoning skills; ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems and control resources.
- Interpersonal communication skills to connect and assist staff and clients.
- Clear and concise writing ability.
- Prioritization and organization skills; ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of buildings and other structures.
- Identify problems, review relevant information, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions.
- Perform tasks safely and responsibly.
- Knowledge of MS Project or Primavera.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business management. Equivalent years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
- Valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management.
- Minimum 2 years’ recent experience on commercial/industrial construction projects in Alaska.
- Knowledge of Procore project management software.
- Position may be subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout.
