Key Responsibilities
  • Community Engagement:
    Create a welcoming and supportive living environment by developing a connection and relationship with each of the students in your assigned community.
  • Programming/Event Planning:
    Plan and execute a variety of social, educational and academic support activities aimed at enhancing the residential experience.
  • Resource Connection:
    Encourage students to utilize the wide variety of resources and support systems available to them across campus.
  • Student and Campus Safety:
    Promote safety on campus by enforcing important policies such as the Student Code of Conduct and the Community Living Standards. Additionally, student staff members serve as Campus Security Authorities under the Clery Act and Responsible Employees under Title IX.
  • Working with Minors:
    Undergo specialized training and background checks, adhering to a strict code of conduct.
  • Administrative Responsibilities:
    Promptly and accurately perform a number of administrative tasks related to the position such as email management, time sheet submissions, report filing, etc.
Minimum Qualifications

Position Requirements.

  • Physical demands include speaking, carrying, keyboarding, reaching, sitting, writing.
  • Environmental and hazardous conditions:
    Candidates may experience a normal office environment during desk duty and indoor programs; may experience extreme weather during outdoor events in winter and during on-call rotations. Applicants must be able to lift up to 25 lbs for program setups.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without restriction. Applicants who require visa sponsorship are not eligible.
  • Student eligibility:
    Be admitted and enrolled in the University of Alaska system in a degree-program with a minimum of nine (9) credit hours for undergraduates or six (6) credit hours for graduates during regular semesters of employment; or for employment between semesters, be admitted in a degree-seeking program and plan to enroll in the next regular semester for nine (9) or more undergraduate or six (6) or more graduate credit hours.
  • Have at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA and maintain satisfactory academic progress; non-traditional programs may be eligible with approval.
  • Be in good disciplinary standing at appointment and remain in good standing during employment. Probation may affect eligibility.
  • Position reappointment depends on academic eligibility, progress toward degree, ePortfolio submission, performance evaluation and conduct.

NOTICE:
Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of 6 undergraduate or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA tax. A lower credit hour load may require FICA withholding. While in a student position, a student cannot hold other employment with the University.

Position Details

This position is open to undergraduate students only. This posting is for Fall 2026-Spring 2027 openings.

This is a Student Assistant 1 position, non-exempt, $10.97/hour, located on the UA campus in Anchorage, Alaska.

Single suite housing and meal plan included at no cost to successful applicants.
