Overview
The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position (9‑month annual support) at the assistant professor level with a specialization in coastal marine ecology in the Department of Marine Biology based at the UAF main campus (Troth Yeddha’ campus) in Fairbanks, Alaska. The position is a 9‑month (annual support) tenure‑track rank at the assistant professor level.
Successful candidates will complement the expertise of existing faculty and contribute to high quality teaching, research, and service. UAF is a federally recognized Alaska Native‑serving institution that supports bridging Indigenous and Western sciences.
- Lead vigorous Alaska‑based research programs that involve mentoring undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral researchers.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise, with a focus on coastal marine ecology and either macroalgae or benthic invertebrates in intertidal or shallow subtidal waters.
- Utilize the coastal laboratory facilities, including the Kasitsna Bay Lab in Kachemak Bay, AK, for research and teaching.
- Possibly serve in the Scientific Diving Program through teaching and leadership roles; certification as a scientific diver is preferred.
- Engage in service to the college, department, and the broader academic community.
- Ph.D. in marine biology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field.
- Postdoctoral research experience, successful proposal funding, and a peer‑reviewed publication record are preferred.
- Strong scientific diving record; certification is preferred.
- Proficient in English, experience teaching at the university level, and experience mentoring students.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.
The position is based at the Troth Yeddha’ campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The appointment is full‑time, FLSA exempt, and covers both a competitive salary (starting pay is DOE) and a full employee benefits package, including retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage.
