Age Range of Students: K-12

Experience as a School Based DHH Teacher: Preferred

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) – Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing using appropriate communication modes such as American Sign Language (ASL), lip‑reading, and written English.
  • Utilize assistive technology (e.g., hearing aids, FM systems, captioning, visual tools) to support communication and learning.
  • Develop and adapt instructional materials and curricula based on individual student needs, IEP goals, and language abilities.
  • Provide direct and consultative services to students across educational environments (general education, resource, or self‑contained).
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, speech‑language pathologists, interpreters, and other related service providers to ensure access and accommodations.
  • Support students' language development, academic progress, and social‑emotional growth.
  • Advocate for students with hearing impairments to ensure inclusive practices and appropriate accommodations.
  • Maintain documentation, progress reports, and participate in IEP meetings.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
License

- Certification Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Deaf Education or Special Education with DHH endorsement.
  • Valid State Teaching License with DHH credential or endorsement.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred or required by district.
  • Additional requirements per state or school regulations.
