The Academic Coach plays a vital role in supporting student success by providing individualized and small-group coaching focused on academic achievement, personal growth, and overall well-being. Working within the Student Success Center, Academic Coaches partner with students to develop effective learning strategies, set meaningful goals, overcome academic challenges, and connect with campus resources. Through a collaborative and student-centered approach, coaches help students build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and navigate their university experience successfully.
Successful Academic Coaches are approachable, empathetic, and committed to helping students achieve their goals. They excel at active listening, communication, and problem-solving while creating a welcoming and supportive environment for students from diverse backgrounds. Thriving in this role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to adapt coaching strategies to individual student needs, and a passion for student development. The most effective coaches are proactive, resourceful, and dedicated to empowering students to build the skills and confidence needed for long-term academic success.
Minimum Qualifications- Applicants must be currently enrolled as a UAF student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.
- Demonstrate the highest level of integrity and confidentiality and professionalism.
- Possesses strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Able to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with individuals from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Possess the ability to be proactive and work independently.
- Proficient in Apple, Microsoft Office, and Google applications, with the ability to learn new software quickly, including Canvas, Nanook Navigator and Banner.
This is a part-time, student position. Compensation is based on experience and the specific duties assigned.
