What you’ll do
  • Design and implement a variety of cultural programs that highlight the unique traditions, arts, and crafts of the local community.
  • Lead hands-on workshops that allow participants to engage in traditional practices, such as weaving, carving, or storytelling.
  • Collaborate with local artisans and cultural leaders to ensure authenticity and relevance in the curriculum.
  • Organize and facilitate cultural exchange events that bring together participants from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and knowledge.
  • Assess participant engagement and feedback to continuously improve program offerings and adapt to the needs of the community.
  • Develop educational materials and resources that support the cultural programs and enhance participant learning.
  • Promote the camp and its activities through social media and community outreach to attract a diverse group of participants.
  • Work closely with Ytt staff to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to align with organizational goals and share best practices.
  • Maintain records of participant attendance, feedback, and program outcomes to report on the effectiveness of the cultural initiatives.
  • Foster a sense of community among participants, encouraging connections and collaboration throughout the camp experience.
  • Serve as a cultural ambassador for Ytt, representing the organization at local events and fostering relationships with community stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in cultural education, arts, or a related field, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of local traditions, arts, and crafts, particularly those specific to the Yakutat area.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Experience in program development and facilitation, with a focus on hands-on, experiential learning.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Nice to have
  • Familiarity with the local community and its cultural landscape, including key stakeholders and organizations.
  • Experience in marketing or outreach, particularly in promoting educational programs or cultural events.
  • Background in outdoor education or experience leading group activities in natural settings.
  • Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken within the local community, is a plus.
Skills & tools
  • Proficiency in using digital tools for program management, communication, and outreach.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms for promoting events and engaging with participants.
  • Basic skills in photography or videography to document activities and create promotional content.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and risk management in outdoor and educational settings.
