NASA has awarded a contract to the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, Alaska, for the continued development and operation of the Synthetic Aperture Radar Distributed Active Archive Center (SAR DAAC) for NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System.
The contract is a cost‑no‑fee, indefinite‑delivery/indefinite‑quantity agreement valued at approximately $70 million with a five‑year period of performance beginning Saturday, July 1. The work will be performed primarily in Fairbanks.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain systems engineering, operations, and maintenance capabilities for the SAR DAAC.
- Lead efforts in the SAR community on data formats, strategic data services, data interoperability, data usability, and data capabilities.
- Provide user services, product generation, and data and information management.
- Archive and distribute a wide variety of space‑borne and airborne radar data, including synthetic aperture radar data.
