Engineering Assistant 3 / Engineering Associate / Engineer/Architect 1
We are looking for an Engineering Assistant 3, Engineering Associate, or Engineer/Architect 1 to help keep Alaska moving. Pay rates: $44.49/hr for Assistant 3 and Associate, $47.51/hr for Engineer/Architect 1. All positions are eligible for overtime.
What You Will Be DoingWork on a diverse Project Delivery Team to deliver transportation projects across Northern Alaska, from Valdez to Prudhoe Bay. Lead design of projects from concept through bid‑ready plans and specifications, and coordinate with support resources such as geotechnical engineers, hydraulic engineers, environmental staff, right‑of‑way and utility specialists to ensure a complete and quality product.

Working EnvironmentYou will work from the DOT&PF complex in Fairbanks, North of multiple buildings on Peger Road. The daily work environment is highly collaborative, with potential assignments in remote locations or urban centers across North Alaska.
Qualifications & Competencies- Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving – Use a logical, systematic approach to address problems or opportunities.
- Leadership – Influence, motivate, and challenge others; adapt leadership style to situations.
- Civil Engineering – Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain transportation systems and related public works.
- Computer Skills – Use computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems (including AutoCAD Civil 3D for Engineer/Architect
1). - Teamwork – Encourage and facilitate cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity.
- Valid Driver’s License required for all levels.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration required for Engineer/Architect 1;
Professional Architect registration acceptable. - Foreign registration acceptable if recognized and subject to comity; registration in Alaska required within one year of hire.
This position may be filled at any of the three levels (Assistant 3, Associate, Engineer/Architect
1) depending on training and experience. Starting salary will be at the level hired. Promotion to a higher level occurs after probation and required training.
