What you will be doing:
As an Engineering Assistant 3, you will provide utility coordination for transportation, aviation, and facility projects, offer technical guidance to regional staff, and support engineering and design efforts related to utility infrastructure. Your responsibilities include composing technical documents for utility relocation agreements, invoicing, and project closeouts; administering utility permits for DOT & PF properties; reviewing permit applications for compliance with state and federal requirements;
coordinating with DOT & PF sections and utility companies; issuing permits; assessing fees; and maintaining utility records and tracking systems that support project design, construction, and maintenance.

- Technical Credibility: Understands and applies principles, procedures, and regulations related to specialized expertise.

- Civil Engineering: Knowledge of principles and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works.
- Teamwork: Encourages cooperation, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and collaboration to achieve goals.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or land surveying from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Two years of engineering, architectural, or land surveying experience, including at least one year at the working or intermediate trainee level (e.g., Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska).
- Alternative pathway: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering from a non-ABET accredited institution + Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certificate or FE examination pass + two years of comparable experience.
- Substitutions:
Four years of post‑secondary education (ABET accredited) plus experience may substitute for the required degree. - Graduate study in engineering or architecture may substitute for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours).
