Description
The Mechanical Field Engineer is a technical lead on industrial construction and fabrication projects. They are responsible for architectural, civil, mechanical, piping, and structural scope, providing direct support to both staff and craft personnel.

3 weeks ON 3 weeks OFF (80.5 hours per week, 26 weeks ON and 26 weeks OFF, with flexibility for special occasions, family needs, or other accommodations available) - Work Location:

- Become familiar with project specifications, drawings, and contract.
- Assist with job estimating using job estimating software. Perform job and task scheduling, construction equipment selection, and plan the construction means & methods. Advise the project scheduler on upcoming work.
- Perform material take-offs and scrubs. Quote and requisition materials.
- Prepare and submit critical lift plans, hydro‑test drawing packages, laydown plans, turnover packages, and work plans. Maintain project logs. Write and distribute project reports.
- Identify, engage, and oversee subcontractors required for the project.
- Become familiar with project Quality Control systems such as WPS’s and NDE.
- Identify and mitigate any health, safety, or environmental hazards.
- Write requests for information (RFI’s). Track and address RFI responses, including submittal of Change Orders, Field Material Requests, redline markups, and briefing craft personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Position will require work in Anchorage and/or deployment to the North Slope. The North Slope deployments may be irregular or may be rotational (such as 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off). Deployment schedules depend on employee preference and on each project’s length.
- Experience working outdoors in cold weather
- Ability to learn and read construction drawings such as P&’s, piping isometric drawings, and structural drawings.
- Proven fluency with computers, including ability to quickly learn new software systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Current and valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Preference will be given to Alaska residents or to applicants willing to relocate to Alaska.
- NSTC certification with H2S module, or ability to obtain upon hire (1‑day online course).
- Preference will be given to applicants with any of the following:
North Slope experience; hands‑on experience modifying piping or structures; previous field/project engineer experience in construction; experience with Oil & Gas; EIT or PE registration;
Mechanical Administrator license; or experience with SharePoint, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, estimating software, Solid Works, P6, or BIM software.
- Take and pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check.
- Take and pass a Fit for Duty Examination.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Ability to set and balance priorities to complete projects on time.
- Ability to make decisions and recommend appropriate course of action in difficult situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle stress and possess positive characteristics even in difficult or challenging situations.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Computer skills commensurate with program and job applications.
- Must be self‑motivated, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow‑up skills.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external team members or customers in a professional demeanor.
- Ability and willingness to work hours as needed to meet or exceed deadlines.
