Automation & Mechatronics Engineer, Instrumentation Tech, Systems Engineer
Position Summary
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the SCADA/PLC Controls Technician ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and HMI/SCADA systems across the company’s three gas storage sites. This is a hybrid role that combines hands‑on maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration with controls programming—developing and modifying ladder‑logic PLC programs and building and maintaining HMI applications in AVEVA and Wonderware.
The successful candidate is a self‑motivated, hands‑on individual with strong team skills who can both keep field equipment running and improve the control systems behind it. The role includes analyzing mechanical and electrical designs, building sequences of operation, implementing them in functioning PLC programs and SCADA screens, and supporting the testing, commissioning, and ongoing upkeep of those systems.
Duties & Responsibilities Maintenance, Calibration & Field Operations
- Perform hands‑on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical and instrumentation equipment across all three storage sites, identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization.
- Maintain, calibrate, and repair instrumentation and control equipment, including valve actuators, VFDs, transmitters, and process equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of calibration and equipment performance as required for compliance systems.
- Maintain SCADA, PLC, and HMI hardware and software, along with associated computers and network equipment.
- Understand and perform safety responsibilities such as hazard identification, equipment lockout/tagout, emergency response, and implementation of safe work procedures.
- Develop, modify, test, and document PLC programs using ladder logic.
- Build, configure, and maintain HMI/SCADA applications in AVEVA and Wonderware System Platform.
- Translate mechanical and electrical designs into sequences of operation, and implement those sequences into functioning PLC programs and user‑friendly SCADA screens.
- Design and implement system protection schemes for process equipment.
- Prepare and revise control logic documentation, drawings, and equipment specifications; maintain accurate product documentation and records.
- Support testing and commissioning of new and modified control systems.
- Adhere to company and applicable client / regulatory engineering standards and procedures.
