Serve as the Research and Technology Transfer Manager, leading the Research and Technology Transfer section to advance Alaska’s transportation system. You will help move promising research ideas into practical tools, processes, training, and programs that improve safety, efficiency, and resilience across the state.

Responsibilities:

• Lead research and pilot programs focused on improving safety, sustainability, resiliency, and performance of Alaska’s transportation systems.
• Help advance emerging tools and technologies such as drones, AI‑supported asset collection, bridge and infrastructure analysis, data systems, and other transportation solutions.
• Use research, data, and technology to support better decisions, improve operations, and inform policy and program development.
• Build partnerships with internal teams, universities, federal agencies, local governments, industry experts, and other transportation organizations.
• Promote the transfer of knowledge from research into practice through training, technical assistance, communication, and workforce development.
• Support and mentor staff while encouraging curiosity, problem‑solving, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• Creativity and Innovation: Develop new insights; question conventional approaches; encourage new ideas; design and implement cutting‑edge programs/processes.
• Partnering: Build alliances and collaborate across boundaries to achieve common goals.

Engineer/Architect 2: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent. Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity (AS 08.48.191(b)).

Those employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect.

Engineer/Architect 3: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and three years of professional engineering or architectural experience (Engineer/Architect series), or the equivalent. Same registration notice applies.

Salary: Engineer/Architect 2 – $4,340.00 to $4,880.00 biweekly (depends on location). Engineer/Architect 3 – $4,974.40 to $4,737.60 biweekly.

Flexible Staffing: This position may be filled at either Engineer/Architect 2 or 3 level, depending on applicant training and experience. Starting salary will be based on the level hired. Promotion to the higher level will occur after successful completion of the probationary period and required training if started at the lower level.
