Overview
Correctional Supervisor at Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC), Mackenzie Point, Alaska. This position is within the Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions.
What you will be doingThe primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise Correctional Officers I/II/III; serve as the on-site supervisor for Goose Creek Correctional Center after hours.
- Meet daily (excluding weekends and holidays) with the Superintendent and operations staff to ensure rules and regulations are observed and institutional functions comply with policy and procedure.
- Ensure adequate staffing on all security posts; review and schedule overtime coverage; approve or disapprove leave requests submitted by staff.
- Provide relief to subordinate CO III who in turn relieves subordinate CO II for breaks or during staff shortages.
- Prepare interim and annual evaluations on assigned staff and coach, counsel, and assist in career goal attainment.

Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility housing up to 1,500 inmates and employing over 350 staff. The role involves office work with daily interaction with inmates and staff.

Successful completion of the Alaska Correctional Officer Academy or equivalent accredited by the Alaska Police Standards Council, and one year of lead experience supervising staff in security duties that support custody, security, and reformation of prisoners in an adult correctional institution (or equivalent experience as a Correctional Officer 4 with the State of Alaska or elsewhere).
OR two years of experience in probation/parole functions or services for an adult offender population in an institutional or community setting in a lead capacity (or equivalent as Adult Probation Officer
3).
OR two years of experience training or evaluating lower-level Correctional Officers as a Field Training Officer (or equivalent as Correctional Officers
3).
At time of employment: be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen or National; have a high school diploma or GED recognized by a state/local school district, or a GED certificate.
Appointment to Correctional Officer Supervisor is conditional upon successful completion of a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination. A valid U.S. driver’s license is required
-call availability may be required. Employees may need to obtain a basic correctional or probation officer certificate within 14 months of hire as per Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC) requirements.
