Fire Prevention Specialist
This position is responsible for the administration, implementation, and enforcement of State and Borough fire and life safety codes and fire prevention/education activities for the Central Mat-Su Fire Department. May serve at the command level or provide apparatus response when assisting with rescue, hazardous materials response, fire investigation, fire training and equipment readiness functions.

As per Assembly designation under MSB 2.52.653(A)(4) this position is excluded from membership in an employee labor organization.

High school diploma, or equivalent.
Seven (7) years of experience in the fire service field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position. Relevant experience may include fire investigation, fire suppression, prevention and inspection, fire training and education, emergency management, and or work in military, airport, or industrial environments involving fire protection, including one (1) year of supervisory experience. Relevant skills and professional experience includes:
Operational fire service; fire investigation; public education and prevention; construction trades and utilities; sprinkler fitting; construction plans review; supervision of staff; administrative skills; public speaking and networking; military fire or engineering.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated required at the time of hire.
Certification by the International Code Council as follows:
Building Plans Examiner required within six (6) months of hire;
Fire Inspector I required within one (1) year of hire, and Commercial Mechanical Inspector required within one (1) year of hire. Fire Inspector II certification is preferred.
Certification as a Certified Fire Investigator by the State of Alaska or other nationally recognized agencies required within one (1) year of hire.
Possession of State of Alaska certification as a Firefighter II required at the time of time. Certification must be IFSAC or Pro Board certified to allow for Alaska reciprocity.
Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) courses, ICS 100 and IS 700 within ninety (90) days of hire, ICS 300 and ISC 400 within nine (9) months of hire, and ICS 200 and IS 800 within one (1) year of hire.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen and physical.
