Alaska Gear Company is seeking a knowledgeable and people-focused Human Resources Generalist to support day-to-day HR operations and help foster a positive, compliant, and engaging workplace. This role plays a key part in supporting employees and management across a broad range of human resources functions. Due to the size of the organization, HR workload may vary, and this position will also support general administrative and operational functions on a regular basis.
Key Responsibilities- Administer and enforce HR policy, procedures, and company initiatives
- Manage the recruitment and selection process for all employees, onboard new hires and provide general orientation
- Act as a business partner with managers and supervisors to communicate policies, procedures, programs, and laws. Advise managers regarding employment issues.
- Coordinate with managers on employee development, engagement, motivation, and retention of employees
- Prepare and present on HR department metrics and goals
- Maintain and administer benefit programs, lead annual renewal process
- Prepare and organize company events
- Ensure legal compliance to Federal, State and Labor laws in Alaska
- Support payroll with maintaining and reviewing payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, changes to pay rates, approving timesheets
- Handling workplace investigations, disciplinary and termination procedures, resolving conflicts through positive and professional mediation
- Manage workers compensation program, including initial reporting, modified duty, plan/administrator, and employees. Responsible for annual OSHA reporting.
- Responsible for managing separations and exit interviews
- Responsible for data entry and data management related to HR Information System
- Maintain and administer performance evaluation through HRIS system
- Develops and maintains affirmative action program; files EEO-1 annually; maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality in all matters
- Perform administrative and operational tasks outside regular HR functions as assigned, particularly during periods of lighter HR workload
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 2–4 years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist or similar role
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar) preferred
- Experience in a multi-department or manufacturing work environment preferred
- Experience managing all aspects of the human resources function
- Ability to think strategically, creatively, and innovatively
- Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative work environment
