Baader III-DH

The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain and repair the machines that head, gut, and skin fish. Special training on the machine is given by the factory.

• Train Baader machine operators in a safe and efficient operation.
• Participate and train operators in cleaning activities, which occur prior to, and following production periods.
• Repairs and maintains the mechanical and electrical systems of all Baader machines. Including chain drives, bearings, belt drives, back guides, pulleys, step motors, back guides, bone guides.
• Communicates with quality control and production personnel to ensure highest yield values are achieved.
• Makes adjustments to machines to ensure that high yields are being successfully achieved.
• Completes related maintenance documentation including machine log books, work orders, test reports, part inventory and parts order logs.
• Set and adjusts spike chain guides, knives, sliding blocks in accordance with the operation manuals and safety procedures.
• Tests the machines to verify step motors and tooling are set up and running properly.
• Utilize down time to maintain machines mechanically and electrically to prevent down time during production.
• Responsible for a 12 hour shift maintaining production with Baader equipment.
• Communicate and train upcoming technical personnel.
• Grease machines daily.
• Change and sharpen knives daily.
• Speaks and communicates English.

• Sitting:
  Opportunity to sit during lunch and breaks.
• Standing:
  Up to 100% of shift while observing and repairing any machine operations. Involves making several steps within a work area. Usual time at a workstation is up to 3 hours, and then a 10 to 15‑minute break will occur.
• Walking:
  Up to 80% of the shift. Walking can be with or without a load. Surfaces include wet or icy surfaces, grated steps, catwalks, wet concrete floor, and ladders.
• Lifting:
  Up to 80% of the shift, often repetitively, such as while moving machine parts, tools, supplies, etc.

  Up to 20% of shift such as when repairing machines.
• Reaching Below Shoulders:
  Up to 50% of shift.
• Pushing/Pulling:
  Up to 20% of the shift such as when moving equipment to Baader machine location.
• Bending/Kneeling/Crawling:
  Up to 40% of shift. All positions will include some degree of bending while standing and reaching. Most bending is of a slight angle, and may be reduced with correct body mechanics.
• Twisting:
  Up to 80% of shift, upper torso with and without load, usually when working on Baader machine.
• Climbing/Balancing:
  Up to 15% of shift, such as when climbing up and down several steps near Baader machine. Grated decking may be wet and slick. Must be able to climb stairs multiple times during shift.
• Simple Grasping:
  Up to 50% of shift by all workers with and without load, such as with hand or power tools and supplies. Dismantle device to remove defective parts.
• Fine Manipulation:
  Up to 100% of shift such as when cleaning and repairing equipment.
• Vision/Hearing:
  Average hearing function sufficient. Vision should be at least average functional capacity. Because the production line moves at fast pace, accurate visual decision‑making ability is necessary. (May have correction with glasses.)
• Seafood processing is a rigorous activity whose work demands depend upon the availability of product. When product is available, the company may operate around the clock with varied shifts for employees which may include working up to 18 hours. When product is not available, it is likely workers will have little or no work. Other non‑processing duties may be available for some workers following the production period and when product is in short supply.
• Workers work together in an isolated island setting in Alaska.
