Summary

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position within the Alaska VA System, serving Fairbanks, Alaska.

• United States citizenship (or eligible non‑citizen under VA policy).
• Proficiency in spoken and written English as required by federal law.
• Active, unrestricted licensure as an LPN or LVN in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
• Graduate of an accredited practical or vocational nursing school or equivalent military training accepted by the licensing body.
• Experience and competency appropriate to the desired grade (GS‑03 to GS‑06). Candidates at GS‑05 or GS‑06 generally have at least one year of LPN experience and demonstrated knowledge of practical nursing procedures, medication administration, emergency response, and patient education.
• Ability to serve as a member of a nursing team and to pre‑train less experienced staff.

• Provide direct patient care, including vitals assessment, medication administration, and clinical support for providers.
• Engage in interdisciplinary teamwork, attend huddles, and maintain accurate electronic records.
• Educate patients and families about disease processes, medications, and self‑care practices.
• Assist with emergency interventions and equipment troubleshooting as needed.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of patient care areas and support departmental workflows.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the nursing team.
