Job Responsibilities

Assists with the construction and repair of playground equipment, fences, flowerbeds, picnic tables, benches, signs, boardwalks, and other park amenities.
Uses power tools and equipment to repair turf, mow grass, cut weeds, maintain trails, and clear brush.
Plants seeds, bulbs, fertilizes, prunes, and water park and garden areas.
Performs trash and litter pickup and collection duties.
Loads and unloads materials, equipment, and supplies.
Assists in conversion support for special events.
Performs heavy manual work as assigned for extended periods under adverse weather conditions.
Operates large mowers, small tractors, and other motorized equipment related to park maintenance.
Performs routine restroom maintenance and other custodial duties.
On an occasional basis, perform work responsibilities of other parks maintenance positions.

Minimum Qualifications

One year previous experience involving construction, general repair, and upkeep of facilities and/or grounds maintenance using hand and power tools and/or related equipment.

Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age at time of employment.

Experience in operating a variety of motorized tools, implements, and equipment (tractors, riding mowers, push mowers, brush cutters, etc.).

Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and irregular work shifts.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work independently to complete assigned tasks.

Knowledge of common construction tools and materials.

Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.

Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Standard First Aid, Adult CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent) within six (6) months of hire. (APPLICANTS WHO HOLD CURRENT CERTIFICATIONS MUST PROVIDE ORIGINAL CERTIFICATION AT THE TIME OF INTERVIEW.)

A proficiency test may be administered.

This position requires a criminal background investigation.

Job Responsibility

Does not supervise; performs mostly routine duties with a few minor problems that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require normal effort to recover.

Work Environment

Shop area where conditions are pleasant; varied outdoor work sites with disagreeable conditions with undesirable elements or factors on a somewhat continuous basis; up to 3/4 of time spent standing or walking; minor accident/hazard risk; requires sustained periods of heavy lifting, pushing or pulling (50+ lbs.); a full range of body movement to include crouching, stopping, stretching, and the ability to carry equipment up/down stairs.

This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
