What You Will Be Doing

This position leads the analytical program in Region III, providing technical support—statistical analysis, geographic information systems, and survey/inventory design—to regional research and management. Duties include supervising technical staff, representing the region on statewide technical working groups, managing the analytical program budget, and overseeing program operations.

Working Conditions

The position is based at the Department of Fish and Game office at Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, Fairbanks. Field work may involve remote wildlife studies conducted via small aircraft, helicopters, boats, or ATVs in interior and eastern Alaska. Exposure to insects, inclement weather and wildlife may occur.

  • Field work includes exposure to animals, insects, inclement weather, low level flying, boat or ATV travel, and contact with drugs or chemicals.
  • Occasional travel within the state and internationally for meetings and field work.
Who We Are Looking For
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical techniques (e.g., statistics, GIS, data management) relevant to wildlife management.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee projects to completion.
  • Experience preparing, formatting, writing, and editing scientific products.
  • Ability to coordinate with diverse professionals to evaluate complex problems.
  • Experience incorporating novel analytical approaches into research projects.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Required training:
    Peace Officer, Wildlife chemical immobilization, Wildlife capture and handling, Laboratory safety.
