We are currently accepting applications for temporary relief staff in the Steward's Department, including Cook/bakers and Mess Attendants. The temporary reliefs will fill in when the regular crew are on shore. Applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis.
ResponsibilitiesCook/Baker:
Prepare nutritional meals for 46 personnel according to daily planned menus, with attention to special dietary restrictions. Perform cooking duties under adverse weather conditions. Maintain inventories of food, equipment, and supplies. Ensure food safety and sanitation. Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Mess Attendant:
Operate on-board galley equipment and maintain clean, sanitary, and safe galley spaces, refrigerators, freezers, and equipment. Maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation in compliance with CDC/FDA vessel sanitation requirements. Create documents and inventory spreadsheets. Deliver outstanding customer service.
- Cook/Baker:
Degree from an accredited culinary school, or equivalent combination of training and experience. U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential endorsed as Food Handler. Serv Safe food handling training. Basic Safety Training (BST) and Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF). Unexpired U.S. Passport, TWIC card, USCG medical certification, valid driver's license. Pass pre-employment DOT drug test. - Mess Attendant: U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential endorsed as Food Handler. Serv Safe food handling training. Basic Safety Training (BST) and Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF). Unexpired U.S. Passport, TWIC card, USCG medical certification, valid driver's license. Pass pre-employment DOT drug test.
- Cook/Baker:
Prefer two years progressive work experience aboard a marine vessel as a cook/baker, or equivalent training. Computer proficiency in word-processing and inventory management. Good organizational skills, ability to plan ahead, understand galley functions. - Mess Attendant:
Prefer six months work experience aboard a marine vessel as a crew member, or equivalent. Computer proficiency in word-processing and inventory management. Good organizational skills, ability to plan ahead, understand galley functions.
New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Salary Schedule, Grade 76 (Mess Attendant) or Grade 77 (Cook/Baker) based on education and experience.
