Grocery​/Asst Dept Leader

Assist the Department Manager in planning, organizing, staffing, training and directing Grocery Department associates; perform production and customer service functions; maximize store sales and profits safely and ethically in accordance with policies and procedures.

• Assist the Department Manager in organizing work, filling department staffing needs, and training and scheduling associates to ensure prompt courteous service.
• Respond promptly in a tactful and professional manner to customer or associate complaints, requests, accidents, and questions.
• Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage ordering merchandise and supplies, ensure proper accounting and inventory balance during the Department Manager’s absence.
• Price and display merchandise, maintain signage, product rotation, freshness, quantity, quality and proper space allocation.
• Counsel associates in effective merchandising techniques, customer services and promotional activities.
• Follow company programs and policies regarding dress code, grooming, sanitation and a harassment‑free environment.
• Provide input to the Department Manager on budgets, goals and results.
• Communicate and interact with associates and customers to create a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment, facilities, floor, shelf and grocery areas to sanitary standards.
• Promote, communicate and implement company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports.
• Demonstrate aptitude to manage people and organize workloads.
• Perform any and all duties as assigned.

• Willingness to work flexible hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as required.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and make positive impressions on associates and customers.
• Skills for effective production, merchandising and customer service related to merchandise sales.
• Understanding of all key components of department operations (managing people, merchandising, CAO, inventory, shrink control, customer service, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.).
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations including employment practices and OSHA compliance.
• Qualified to operate power machinery and use tools such as power jacks, box cutters, label guns, balers, compactors, etc.

• Grocery retail work experience or backup manager experience.
• Past record reflecting dependability and integrity.
