Overview
This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Yakutat, Alaska.
What You Will Be DoingThe primary duties include answering public inquiries about Commercial and Sport fisheries and wildlife, Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission forms, issuing permits/logbooks and sealing wildlife such as bears and furbearers. The role provides administrative, programmatic, logistical and field support such as purchasing, inventory, personnel/payroll, office management, and data entry for Commercial Fisheries, Sportfish and Wildlife Conservation. The incumbent will also participate in field projects such as assisting with operation of Situk River weir, sampling the troll fishery and commercial fishery when needed, and assisting with any other ongoing projects.

The Working Environment You Can ExpectThis position is based in the ADF&G office in Yakutat, Alaska. Yakutat is a small community with a diverse population and a high influx of visitors each summer. Regular tasks include answering phones, collecting, editing and entering fish tickets and logbook information, handling personnel/payroll documents, purchasing tasks, and assisting the biologist by sealing bears, wolves and other furbearers while collecting biological data and helping with sampling fish for ongoing fisheries.
- Requires working with the public in a community of 600 or less people.
- Requires sharing bunkhouse space with other individuals or living in close quarters with other individuals.
- Requires working with State of Alaska programs and the ability to collect data and record data on electronic or paper forms.

- Ability to interact with the public and maintain courteous manner in challenging situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to comprehend regulations or policies and procedures and communicate them to the public.
- Ability to successfully work with multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy to detail.
- Ability to work independently while adhering to and meeting time frames that at times may be pressing.
- Ability to enter/edit information into databases.
