Environmental Compliance Specialist
The Department of Environmental, Health, Safety and Risk Management (EHSRM) serves critical functions for the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). EHSRM's Environmental Affairs Team is steeped in compliance tasks and projects to meet Federal, State, and local regulatory needs along with providing support to university partners across UAF. In addition, this position is a lead in promoting environmental stewardship and proactive environmental program management.
To thrive in this position the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of progressive responsible environmental program and compliance related experience. Success in this position requires strong initiative, demonstrated proactive problem solving, heightened skills in cross-functional coordination, excellent organization, and the ability to work independently. The Environmental Compliance Specialist is a crucial member of the EHSRM Environmental Affairs Team, which works to promote a culture of environmental responsibility, stewardship and compliance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational health & safety, industrial hygiene, chemistry, or other related field, and two years progressively responsible relevant experience (i.e. environmental health & safety), or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional licensure or certification may be required. PREFERRED:
Experience in providing training and an ability to follow-through on long-term projects.
REQUIRED:
State of Alaska drivers license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria. The incumbent must demonstrate familiarity with applying Federal, State and local regulations as they pertain to environmental compliance. Ability to obtain and maintain required professional certifications (i.e., SP001 AST inspector).
Position Details:
This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Coalition of Alaska University Staff for Equity (CAUSE)-UAW. This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.
New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
