Information Security Analyst I

As a Security Analyst at the University of Alaska, youâll have a direct impact on improving security, reducing risk, and ensuring the continuity of business operations at UAâs 20+ locations throughout the state of Alaska. Security Operations is responsible for a number of critical functions, including incident response, firewall management, operation and maintenance of a variety of cybersecurity tools and services, education and outreach to the UA community on topics like security awareness, data handling, privacy and compliance.

Youâll be part of a collaborative team providing excellent service to the University of Alaska community. This position does require occasional travel within and outside of Alaska and participation on a rotating on-call schedule.

Daily Work
On a typical day, you will monitor cloud services, endpoints, and networks to prevent/detect breaches and other security issues. You may install and manage firewalls, configure or monitor applications and services, perform pentests, communicate with other internal stakeholders to assess and improve security, or support audit, assessment, or compliance efforts. Every day you will collaborate with your teammates (other Analysts, Engineers, and Student Analysts) to support enterprise-wide security initiatives.

You should enjoy working independently or collaborating in a group setting, have strong written and verbal communication skills, enjoy researching cybersecurity topics, awareness, and best practices, and feel comfortable collaborating and presenting in person or online with both your peers and others across university departments.

Because this position is typically a frontline role with significant customer interaction and provides training and support to internal and external customers, strong communication and time management skills are expected. Diplomacy and an interest in collaborative problem solving and project management will be beneficial in this role. Familiarity with programming or scripting languages and use of those in automation and orchestration is a plus.

Bachelorâs degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 4 years progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Desired:
Industry-recognized certifications (like CompTIA, (ISC)2, SANS). Willingness to relocate to Fairbanks, Alaska.
Travel and on-call required.

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. In-person work arrangements are preferred, but hybrid and remote within Alaska work may also be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
